We have just observed our 69th Independence Day. We have been taught during our school days that we should stand in “Attention Position” when the National Anthem is being played or sung. But many of us these days act as if they are ignorant of this and follow the tradition of some other countries by putting a hand on the chest. This should not be done. Many argue that nobody can decide on how one should express one’s love or respect for one’s country and why there is a rule for the same. These are some poor logics given by some not-so-well-read minds who do not understand the significance and symbolism behind protocols. Protocols must be respected and it is the duty of every citizen to abide by them. This is not just about the way one expresses respect towards one’s country. This is more than that. Constitution defines the protocols for us that must be followed internationally. Yes, life should be easy. And standing at attention does not make it tough for us. Constitutional rules are not meant to be broken. Instead, the process of how we perceive it needs to be framed in accordance with that.
May we understand and learn to practice the constitutional protocols.
Shubhamastu! (शुभमस्तु!) 🙂
